Faculty Spotlight~ Ms. Ellen Sun

Ms. Ellen Sun is the event coordinator/athletic director at AST, and she has been working at AST for 4 years. She came to AST because she wanted to challenge herself to see if she was able to achieve something she wasn’t able to in the past. Her mindset was how she could contribute to the school instead of the method of teaching. At first, Ms. Sun didn’t intend on being an Event Organizer for AST, although she was hoping to go in that direction. She wanted to be part of the community first, and then see what the school could provide her with. She was first a teacher's assistant for second grade, helped the previous Athletic director and then took over this job. Some examples of her work are the Chinese New Year event, Valentine's event, Mother’s Day event, Halloween, Thanksgiving event, AST faculty and staff events, and TISSA tournaments etc.. Her favorite part of her job is all of the factors and this is because she enjoys organizing and planning events to create a better environment for AST.

Ms. Sun believes that proper communication is very important for a peaceful environment. She said, “Communication is very important between people. Sometimes we just have to be aware of people's emotions.” She thinks AST has a very good “vibe”, and we can reach out to each other for help, in other words, a very supportive community.” Ms. Sun believes that there’s no part of her job that is hard. Since everyone has different opinions, communication is the key to success. Interacting with others can be challenging but also the best part of her job!

Ms. Ellen Sun是AST的活動/體育組長，她已經在AST工作了4年。她來 AST 是因為她想挑戰自己，看看她是否能實現過去無法實現的目標。她的心態是如何為學校做出貢獻，而不是教學方法。一開始，Ms. Sun並沒有預期到會擔任活動組長一職，儘管她希望朝那個方向發展，她想先成為AST的一員，然後再看看學校希望她做什麼。早先她擔任二年級的助教、協助前任體育組長，然後接任體育組長。她工作的範圍包括策畫中國新年、情人節、母親節、萬聖節、感恩節、 教職員活動和 TISSA 錦標賽等等。她喜歡工作中的每個部分，因為她喜歡組織和策劃活動，能為 AST 創造更好的環境。

Ms. Sun認為適當的溝通對於和諧的工作環境非常重要。她說：「人與人之間的交流非常重要，有時我們只需要了解人們的情緒。」她認為 AST 的氛圍非常好，大家會互相幫助、支持彼此的地方，因此她相信她的工作沒有困難的部分。由於每個人都有不同的意見，溝通是成功的關鍵。與他人互動可能具有挑戰性，但也是她工作中最好的部分！
